According to Laurent Nuñez’s entourage, the minister discussed the ban on the concert with the Prefect of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, Jacques Witkowski, and the mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, during his visit to the city last week. In early March, the left-wing mayor had stated his opposition to the rapper’s visit to his city. “I refuse for Marseille to be a showcase for those who promote hate and Nazism without shame. Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and for all the people of Marseille,” Benoît Payan said.
