At Michel-Bousqui College, the cinema culture is well established. For years, the school has been part of the College at the Cinema program.

Financed 55% by the Department, this initiative allows all middle school students to watch three films in theaters each year and receive training on image education. On Monday, April 13, the 5th graders welcomed Ukrainian filmmaker Aliona Zagurovska, a graduate of Fémis (National School of Image and Sound Professions) and author of fiction and documentary short films selected in numerous festivals. An unique opportunity for students to discover the behind-the-scenes of the magic of cinema.

After discussing her work, Aliona Zagurovska got the students involved in writing a story, creating a storyboard, and filming. This allowed them to explore the various aspects of filmmaking, from choosing actors to sound recording, and considering the type of shots to use. All done with remarkable efficiency in record time: two hours of training for each class. And why not spark some vocations? One thing is certain: the students in Quillan actively participated in this initiation and some really enjoyed it.

Perhaps in a few years, some will choose to study cinematography, but that is another story.
