Samuel Kotto s’engage définitivement avec le Stade de Reims jusqu’en 2030

Samuel Kotto, central defender previously loaned to Stade de Reims, will become a permanent member of the team starting next season. He has committed to the red and white club until 2030.

The news broke this Friday: the loan for central defender Samuel Kotto has been lifted. The Cameroonian will officially join the Reims team for the upcoming Ligue 2 season, and stay until 2030. This decision was explained by the Reims management due to the valuable qualities he has shown throughout his career and demonstrated this season. “Samuel Kotto has established himself as an indispensable element of the central defense,” the club stated in a press release on its website.

After passing through Sweden from Cameroon, Samuel Kotto first had a successful trial with Malmö FF in 2021, signing his first professional contract with them the following year. After several loan spells, he then moved to KAA Gent in Belgium on a long-term contract. His performances led to his inclusion in the Cameroon national team, following his appearances for the youth teams. Noticed during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he joined Stade de Reims last January on a paid loan, with an option to buy estimated at around 4 million euros.

Despite a disappointing collective season, Samuel Kotto was one of the bright spots, particularly praised for his anticipation and passing. In total, he played in 16 matches in the heart of the Reims defense. “We did not reach our goal at the end of the season, it is a disappointment that I share with the whole group,” the player stated on the Stade de Reims website. “But it only strengthens my determination for the next season. My goal is simple: to help bring this club back to Ligue 1 while continuing to improve. I want to be an important part of the team, on and off the field, to achieve this promotion.”
