The organization of such a tournament requires a colossal amount of work. But we also know the energy it represents for clubs that come from afar, like Mexico, faithful to the event, or Poland, the newcomer,” underline Séverine Guitter and Fatima Halaf, key figures of the International Basketball Association Pluguffan Tournament (Tibap).
Their comments highlight the demanding nature of an event of this magnitude, which will take place this year across three locations: Pluguffan, Combrit-Sainte-Marine, and, for the first time, in Quimper on Sunday morning. Some countries, due to lack of resources or visas, were unable to make the trip.
Seventeen teams united
One year before its tenth anniversary, the tournament will bring together eight U13 teams and nine U15 teams, divided into three categories: foreign teams, French clubs, and local teams, including the Pluguffanais, champions of Finistère. Three regions of the world will be represented, Europe with Poland, America with Mexico, and the Caribbean with Martinique.
Poland arrives with the Kolobrzeg club
Among these delegations, Poland arrives in force with a full delegation. The Kotwica club based in Kolobrzeg, a city of 40,000 inhabitants, will send two teams: 20 children born between 2012 and 2014, accompanied by seven adults. “It is an old, very well-structured club, whose seniors play in the first division, equivalent to Pro B in France,” explains their translator, Cherif Najjari, deeply involved in the organization. The children arrive with the desire to have fun, but also to be true competitors. They are also surprised by the format of the matches in two halves of 8 minutes, which promises maximum intensity. Their goal is clear: to create links with French clubs and, ultimately, to invite them back to Poland.
