The Israeli army on Tuesday carried out new series of airstrikes and artillery shelling in southern Lebanon, issuing evacuation orders to residents of twelve localities despite a fragile truce with the Iran-backed Islamist Hezbollah movement.
According to AFP images, a strike on Maachouq, north of Tyre, caused the collapse of the last two floors of a building, damaging neighboring structures and parked cars nearby.
A strike in the same locality on Monday had destroyed a health center operated by Hezbollah-affiliated rescuers, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday.
The Lebanese National News Agency (Ani) stated that a strike had largely destroyed a neighborhood in Nabatiyeh housing shops, an old mosque, and traditional homes. AFP images showed a thick plume of smoke rising from the area targeted.
The Israeli army had previously called on residents of 12 Lebanese localities to evacuate, including 11 in the south and one in the Bekaa region. They later reiterated the same warning.
In a separate statement, the army announced the interception of a drone crossing the border from Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed to have carried out multiple attacks against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, as well as against Iron Dome batteries in northern Israel.
Lebanon’s Civil Defense announced on Tuesday losing contact with seven Lebanese individuals after an Israeli patrol incursion in the Hasbaya region.
The Israeli army released four of them, while the other three remained “captives of the Israeli enemy,” reported the Civil Defense.
Israel and Hezbollah continue their clashes despite the ceasefire, with Israeli forces conducting strikes beyond the “blue line” that delineates a zone about ten kilometers deep in southern Lebanon, where Israeli soldiers continue operations to protect the northern population of Israel from the pro-Iranian group’s fire.
Since the conflict began, Israeli strikes have killed over 3,000 people in Lebanon, as per Lebanese authorities.
On the Israeli side, 20 soldiers and a contractor working for the army have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the conflict on March 2.
