The director of “Athena” is working on a film about the burglary of the famous Parisian museum that occurred on October 19, 2025.

Seven months after the theft of the Louvre jewels on October 19, 2025, the “heist of the century” becomes a source of inspiration for fiction. According to the specialized media Le Film français, director Romain Gavras is preparing a film dedicated to the burglary of the famous Parisian museum.

The script for this feature film will be based on a book investigation written by Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê, and Nicolas-Charles Torrent.

Entitled “Main basse sur le Louvre,” this book, expected to be released by Flammarion Editions on May 27, tells the investigation that followed the sensational burglary on October 19, 2025. The book promises “an exciting dive into an ultra-sensitive investigation,” relying on “secret documents” and “sensational reports.”

Writing of the screenplay in progress

While Roman Gavras has announced that he started writing the project with Simon Jacquet and Mourad Winter, as of now, neither the title of the film nor its release date have been revealed by the director.

For the production, the filmmaker has enlisted Iconoclast, a production company with whom he previously collaborated in 2018 on “Le Monde est à toi,” nominated twice at the César Awards, and “Athena,” selected at the Venice Film Festival in 2022.

More recently, Romain Gavras and Iconoclast also worked together on the shooting of the music video “Storm” with Swedish rapper Yung Lean and French electro artist Surkin.

Another book, “Le casse du Louvre,” by Patricia Tourancheau, was recently published on the subject on May 7. This book focuses more on the profile of the burglary’s authors and recounts how they managed to break into the museum.
