On January 14th, ICE agents arrested Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis during an immigration check near his home. During the operation, he was shot in the leg.
The Minnesota state court in the United States indicted police immigration officer Christian Castro, 52, on Monday for shooting a Mexican national in January. He faces four charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and falsely reporting a crime.
Previously on January 14th, ICE agents had also arrested Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis and another Mexican national, Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna, during an immigration check near their home. During the operation, Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis was shot in the leg as well.
False Accusations
Both men were accused of assaulting an ICE agent with a broom handle and a snow shovel. However, the authorities believe these accusations are false. Federal agents allegedly lied about the events leading up to the shooting, as reported by an ICE official in February.
American prosecutors have decided to drop the charges against both Mexican nationals, citing that the evidence was “materially inconsistent with the allegations.”
