Collateral damage or actually at war with Iran? Following the start of Israeli-American airstrikes on February 28, the United Arab Emirates were among the first Gulf states hit by Iranian retaliations. Nearly three months later, the mullahs’ propaganda clearly targets Abu Dhabi.
The two countries also clash due to their territorial ambitions. They dispute the sovereignty of three small islands in the Strait of Hormuz: Abu Musa, Lesser Tunb, and Greater Tunb. “There is a dispute,” confirms General Jean-Claude Allard on LCI. But these are not the only points of contention. “The United Arab Emirates are signatories of the Abraham Accords, thus allies of Israel,” adds Jean-Claude Allard. “The United Arab Emirates also participated in strikes during the beginning of the Israeli-American aerial campaign. And they are protected by Israel, which has deployed an aerial defense system.”
