Main Information

  • Lockheed Martin is proactively collaborating with its suppliers to manage the production of ammunition for critical missile systems.
  • The company is investing billions of dollars in expanding production, modernization, and constructing new facilities.
  • This supplier initiative reflects an industry-wide trend focusing on industrial preparedness and production scalability to meet increasing defense demands.

Lockheed Martin is taking proactive steps to strengthen ammunition production in response to the growing demand for defense materials. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense, the company has initiated a series of supplier conferences aimed at accelerating manufacturing processes and enhancing supply chains for critical missile systems.

Supplier Collaboration

The first supplier conference on accelerating ammunition production, held in Dallas, brought together over 150 Lockheed Martin suppliers, including those involved in programs such as PAC-3 MSE, THAAD, and PrSM, which are experiencing significant production increases.

These monthly conferences, held alternately in-person and online, aim to improve coordination within the defense industrial base. The goal is to streamline ammunition delivery while maintaining adaptability as production needs evolve under Department of Defense acquisition reforms and the broader “Arsenal of Freedom” initiative.

Investment in Production Expansion

To further support its expansion strategy, Lockheed Martin has committed to a substantial investment plan of 8 to 9 billion dollars (6.9 to 7.7 billion euros) by 2030. These funds will be used to increase ammunition production, modernize existing facilities, and build new ones across the United States. Additionally, the company is prioritizing the development of alternative suppliers for critical components to mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities and ensure uninterrupted production.

This supplier initiative reflects a broader industry trend that emphasizes industrial preparedness and production scalability in response to increased defense requirements. Sustained investments in infrastructure, workforce development, and supplier diversification are increasingly recognized as essential to maintaining a reliable ammunition supply for U.S. and allied forces.
