The regularity of the capital club allows the Interior Minister to be prepared. Laurent Nuñez expects, on the sidelines of the Champions League final on May 30 between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal in Budapest, “the same level of violence in Paris in 2025 and promises an exceptional security system.”
In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, the minister believes that if PSG wins their second Champions League final on May 30, “there will be many more people in the streets to participate in the scenes of jubilation in many different places, compared to the semi-final won against Bayern Munich (5-4, 1-1).
563 arrests in 2025
“Last year, when PSG won, there were many incidents. The ring road was disrupted, stores were looted… We expect the same level of violence,” he said, adding: “The security system will, therefore, be exceptional.”
Last year, PSG’s victory in Munich (5-0) against Inter Milan led to violence and disturbances in France, especially in Paris. A massive security system was already deployed in the Parisian area with 5,400 police officers and gendarmes. Law enforcement carried out 563 arrests on the evening of the victory, including 491 in Paris, leading to 307 detentions. 79 other people were arrested the following night. Laurent Nuñez was then the police prefect of Paris, and Bruno Retailleau was the Interior Minister.
