I like to put art in places that are not intended to accommodate it: What is this new mural that adorns the entrance of this household waste union?

Over the past few days, the entrance of the Sipom de Revel in Haute-Garonne has changed its appearance. A 60-meter mural now spans three walls. The organization and the artists behind the project explain what inspired them.

We don’t typically associate the waste management union (Sipom) of Revel with the art world. Located next to the Trifyl waste disposal site, the site usually evokes thoughts of waste management rather than mural aesthetics. However, in recent days, the grey concrete has given way to an explosion of colors: a monumental 60-meter-long mural now extends across the three walls of the entrance to the premises.

At the heart of this transformation is a clear desire from Sipom: to increase visibility among motorists in the Pomme area while enhancing the working environment for the staff. To meet this challenge, the union launched a tender won by two artists specializing in muralism from Baziège: Jérémie Simonneaux and Fred Battault, known as Kali and Osat.

The mural highlights local landscapes and an ecological message, featuring an image of a bee and a planet Earth shaped like an apple, a playful nod to the local industrial zone. It took seven days of intense work spread over several weeks to complete the artwork, closely followed by onlookers. Initially sparking curiosity, the project eventually garnered thumbs-up and encouraging smiles from viewers.

For Patricia Vial and Angélique Oteiza of Sipom, this mural serves as a modern communication tool. They believe it is a way to attract attention and convey the message that everyone must play their part, with the hope of engaging a younger urban audience.

“I like the aspect of incongruity: bringing art to a place that is not intended to receive it,” adds Jérémie Simonneaux. The artists, who have worked in Vaudreuille, Maurens, and Durfort, demonstrate that culture can thrive anywhere.

This successful venture makes the service more visible, more humane, and above all, much more inspiring.
