The Senegalese football community is taking a stand against mystical practices and charms. Following several incidents in local Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 matches, the Senegalese Professional Football League has announced plans to ban these “occult” practices and promises severe sanctions to restore the credibility of the professional championship.
The witch hunt has begun in Senegal. The country aims to leave behind mysticism in football stadiums. In a statement released by PressAfrik, the Senegalese Professional Football League strongly condemned the “introduction and use of occult practices in certain sports venues.”
According to the league, deviations were observed during the 26th and 27th matchdays of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 before being widely circulated on social media.
“The competition must be based on preparation, discipline, sporting merit, and loyalty.”
The LSFP asserts that these practices have no place in a championship seeking to professionalize and gain credibility. The league believes that they have “no basis in high-level football practice” and emphasizes that “competition must be based on preparation, discipline, sporting merit, and loyalty.”
It also states that this public exposure damages the championship’s international image and “compromises efforts to develop Senegalese professional football.”
Sanctions are planned against the clubs involved.
This is not the first time: as early as 2023, the league had announced plans to crack down on mystical practices, with penalties that could include fines, points deductions, or matches being forfeited.
In its statement, the league also urges clubs to take responsibility: “The LSFP calls on all clubs to support its efforts by educating their leaders, technical staff, and players, and ensuring that no such practices are tolerated.”
