Welcoming you to the Midwest, where the sky knows everything, where you can finally rest until the tornado warning sirens harmoniously sing. From the first track, the beautiful “Badlands,” Kevin Morby sings of his native Kansas just as he leaves it for Los Angeles. An ambivalent tribute, made of hymns to its highways and the freedom they offer, but also a tale of the loneliness that grips the small towns of the Bible Belt. In the middle of its thirteen tracks, “100,000” sums up the discomfort of the singer: he moves from a portrait of ”pretty sisters” to ”You will take a plunge when.”
