President of National Assembly works with Committee on Defense

The President of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Thanh Man held a working session with the Standing Committee of the Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs Commission regarding the deployment of major missions for the year 2026.

In the afternoon of May 14, at the headquarters of the National Assembly (NA) in Hanoi, its President Tran Thanh Man, held a working session with the Standing Committee of the Defense, Security, and Foreign Affairs Commission regarding the deployment of major missions for the year 2026.

In 2026, legislative drafting is a central task. The Commission will consider the bill amending the Law on Representations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam abroad. It will closely collaborate with the Ministries of Public Security, Defense, and Foreign Affairs to prepare the legislative program for 2026-2027, including laws on data security, combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, post-war mine clearance, and international agreements. Additionally, it will review fundamental texts such as the Law on People’s Public Security, the Law on Officers, and entry and exit law for foreigners.

President Tran Thanh Man praised the Commission’s results during the 15th legislature. He noted that despite the complexity of some issues, laws were adopted with a high consensus. Parliamentary diplomacy effectively served the Party’s line of independence and autonomy, strengthening national prestige and protecting sovereign interests. However, he candidly pointed out shortcomings in the concrete effectiveness of some external activities and in coordination and information sharing mechanisms.

For the remaining months of 2026, he urged a profound renewal of legal thinking to institutionalize the solutions of the 14th National Party Congress and Resolution 59 on international integration. The Commission must ensure the rigorous integration of national defense and security imperatives in every bill. He also called for expediting the drafting of the resolution on the supervision of international treaties to ensure the prompt and concrete implementation of the adopted texts.

Regarding supervision, the highest legislator advocated for increased monitoring of the execution of international commitments and bilateral cooperation agreements. On the diplomatic front, priorities should be given to strategic partners and multilateral forums. A rigorous coordination mechanism must be finalized in May 2026. He emphasized strict periodic monitoring, requiring monthly and quarterly assessments of the implementation of agreements signed by the NA with its partners.

Finally, the leader called for a transition to a more intensive work pace, where each member clearly defines their responsibilities. He particularly emphasized digital transformation and artificial intelligence to optimize policy analysis and reduce administrative pressures. Expressing confidence in the Commission, he stressed that solidarity and determination will help meet the challenges of the new legislature. – VNA/VI
