War in Ukraine: justice against realpolitik

ANALYSIS – Two approaches are in conflict to end the war in Ukraine. One, trumpist, based on the “realpolitik” and the primacy of force, and the other, European, warns against a “realpolitik” without considering the “real”.

The Duma on Wednesday passed a bill that allows President Putin to send troops to any country where Russian citizens could be threatened, detained or brought to court. A complex legislation that Ukrainians see as a “normalization of Russian expansionism”.

This controversial legislative initiative coincides – which cannot be a coincidence – with the holding, on Thursday and Friday in Chisinau, Moldova, of a summit of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Council of Europe, which is expected to confirm the creation of a special tribunal for the Russian aggression against Ukraine, whose status was adopted in June 2025. France announced through its minister Jean-Noël Barrot that it will “join the governing committee of the special tribunal”, hoping to see its creation at the meeting.
