The next edition of the FIFA World Cup is not far away. This 2026 edition, organized by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will take place from June 11 to July 19. To bring this World Cup to life, M6, which will broadcast the competition live, has put together a team including Ophélie Meunier, Xavier Domerhue, Julien Brun, and Samuel Umtiti.

Michou, the famous YouTuber with over 11 million subscribers, has been chosen by M6 to create behind-the-scenes content for his own social media as well as for M6’s platforms and post-match magazines. This move by M6 is an attempt to attract a younger audience.

However, not everyone is pleased with his presence. Many journalists, both famous and anonymous, have expressed regret that a professional journalist or a football specialist was not chosen for this role. Sports journalist Cécile Grès stated, “For me, he is taking the place of a journalist. There are people who study, who pursue this profession with a lot of passion, and I am afraid that this will eventually discourage young students from seeing that other profiles are taking their place. It is very difficult for young people to start. There is such competition that seeing this must deal them a blow.”

Defending Michou, the head of RMC, Karim Nedjari, expressed his thoughts on the matter during a press conference unveiling RMC’s plans for the World Cup. He said, “Football belongs to everyone. Influencers, footballers, coaches, fans, everyone has the right to talk about football and then the audience decides. The more we promote football, the more we want to talk about it, and the more we want to talk about it, the more we want to share it. I know they are addressing a particular audience. I want everyone to be interested in football, and lately it has been more fashionable to dislike football, to dislike footballers, to dislike sports, and I want everyone to be interested. So if Michou can bring in a different audience, then great.”
