A day dedicated to projects funded by European funds and support for project leaders in Kourou
The Local Action Group of Savanes (GAL) is organizing a day dedicated to the “Joli Mois de l’Europe” in order to present projects funded by European funds and support future project leaders in the territory, on Wednesday, May 13, at the Maison de la Jeunesse des Savanes in Kourou.
The Savanes territory is one of the five territories “Linking actions for the development of the rural economy” (LEADER) conventioned in French Guiana. Since the 2014-2020 programming, more than 2.1 million euros have been mobilized for local development. According to figures provided by GAL, 171 project leaders have been received and 36 projects supported, for 1.6 million euros from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER).
36 supported projects
The funding has supported projects related to tourism, agriculture, culture, crafts, or heritage. Among the achievements are the renovation of Kalawachi shelters, support actions for farmers in the Iracoubo basin, ecotourism activities, and the scenography of the natural site of Pripris de Yiyi. Cultural events and actions promoting the destination “Savanes de Guyane” have also benefited from these grants.
The event will present the European LEADER and OS5 programs as well as several projects funded in recent years in the municipalities of Sinnamary, Iracoubo, Saint-Élie, and the rural area of Kourou.
The morning will be dedicated to institutional partners, and the afternoon will be open to project leaders and the general public. The program for the day includes testimonials, exchanges, and fun activities related to Europe.
