Jacques Bouanich’s name is added to the list of cases shaking up the French audiovisual landscape. Known for his numerous appearances on television, especially in “Plus belle la vie,” the actor was sentenced on April 16, 2026, by the Paris Court of Appeal to four years in prison, including one year of electronic monitoring, for incestuous sexual assaults.
This decision echoes the first instance ruling in 2024 but includes additional penalties, such as losing parental authority over his other minor daughter, a five-year ban on working with minors, and registration as a sex offender. He must also compensate the victims and is prohibited from contacting them. This conviction comes at a time when gender-based violence continues to tarnish the image of the cinema and television industry.
A Supporting Role Career: he was present in cinemas, television, and dubbing
Behind this name is Jean-Jacques Bouanich, a character actor familiar to television viewers. At 74 years old, the actor has participated in numerous popular productions, from “Hippocrate” to “Family Business,” including the very popular “HPI.” Viewers have also seen him in “Les Cordier, juge et flic” and “Alice Nevers, le juge est une femme,” among others. In 2022, he appeared in the successful series “Et la montagne fleurira.”
Jacques Bouanich does not recognize the allegations
According to the evidence presented in court, the incidents spanned a long period. His daughter allegedly suffered assaults between the ages of 5 and 15, primarily in Champigny-sur-Marne where the actor lived, and in other locations in France. His former stepdaughter, aged 8 to 9 at the time, was also reportedly assaulted between 2011 and 2012 in the Vaucluse region. Despite the court’s ruling, the actor denies the accusations, citing financial motives. He intends to appeal the decision.
