As his future was uncertain after a challenging 2025-26 season, Steve Kerr has decided to extend his contract for two years and will therefore remain the coach of the Golden State Warriors, according to ESPN.
Between Steve Kerr and the Warriors, the love story will continue. Indeed, while his future was uncertain in recent weeks, the former coach of Team USA from 2021 to 2024 has decided to extend with Golden State. According to ESPN’s information, Kerr will now be linked until 2028 with the franchise based in San Francisco, with whom he has been a champion in the NBA four times.
Already the highest-paid coach in the league (with a salary of $17.5 million per season), the former player will maintain this status and will now try to revive the Warriors who are coming off a poor season. During the offseason, Golden State could try to attract a big name to accompany Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, who is currently injured. The names of Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and Kawhi Leonard have been mentioned recently.
Curry: “Kerr knows what I think of him”
Anyway, this extension should delight the star point guard of Golden State who had strong words recently about his coach. “I want Steve Kerr to be happy. I want him to be excited about the idea of holding this position. I want him to be convinced that he is the right person for this job. I want him to have the opportunity to rediscover the joy of doing what he does,” Curry said in a press conference.
“Whatever it means for him, everyone has their project and I’m not going to try to tell anyone what they should do. He knows what I think of him. It shouldn’t even need to be said. Whatever happens, we are grateful for what we have been able to achieve during this journey. (…) Again, I just want the coach to be able to consider the situation as a whole and feel that he is the right person,” the American point guard also explained.
