The HUG now ranks among the top 20 hospitals in the world according to the Newsweek World’s Best Hospitals 2026 ranking. Climbing 34 places in one year to reach the 19th spot globally confirms the institution’s commitment to quality and safety of care. In Europe, HUG ranks 8th.
International recognition is based on rigorous criteria. Published by the American magazine Newsweek in partnership with the data institute Statista, the ranking evaluates over 2,500 hospitals from 32 countries. The analysis includes recommendations from thousands of healthcare professionals worldwide, indicators related to quality and safety of care, and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs).
This approach measures both clinical reputation and the concrete impact of care on patients’ quality of life. HUG’s entry into the top 20 globally follows a trajectory of continuous improvement seen in recent years through Newsweek rankings for specialized hospitals and hospitals leading in digital innovation. Three years after being among the top 100 global institutions, this latest ranking confirms HUG’s commitment to maintaining excellence at the highest international standards.
