He said stop. In a few days, former rugby international Jules Plisson will hang up his boots and put an end to his long and illustrious career. The announcement was made Thursday night after his Provence club’s Pro D2 match victory against Vannes (34-31).
To mark the occasion and pay tribute to their player, the Aix-en-Provence club posted a touching video on their social media showing Plisson walking through a guard of honor with his child in his arms and featuring testimonials from numerous rugby personalities.
Among them were his former teammates, his “brothers” (Jonathan Danty, Sébastien Bézy, Romain Sazy), coach Gonzalo Quesada, who coached him at Stade Français, and former national team coach Philippe Saint-André, who emphasized “the end of a magnificent career.”
A career marked by 18 caps for the French national team, a French championship title in 2015, and a European title (European Challenge) in 2017 with Stade Français.
Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine 34 years ago, “Pliss”, one of his nicknames, also wore the jerseys of La Rochelle, Clermont, and finally Provence Rugby.
“After nearly 15 years in French rugby, Jules Plisson chose this evening (Thursday) at Maurice-David to announce the end of his career,” the Aixois club stated. “Off the field, he has given a lot to the group, supporting our young players every day, a real opportunity for them to grow by his side. Thank you for everything Jules.”
The video with the testimonials was shown on the stadium’s giant screens while Plisson, in tears with his child in his arms, received homage from the entire stadium in the middle of the field. A truly emotional moment.
