À Like soup without salt, bread without yeast, or wine without grapes, fashion without France is unthinkable. So when the most prestigious evening in the fashion world approaches, it is not surprising to see the name of a French celebrity on the list. Whether recognized by Anna Wintour for their influence on the big screen, in music, the fashion industry, or social media, these French personalities have had the chance and immense privilege to be invited, sometimes multiple times, to the illustrious Met Gala. For example, actress Marion Cotillard walked the red carpet no less than six times (in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2023), as did Charlotte Gainsbourg (in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2018, and 2019) and designer Jean-Paul Gaultier (1995, 1997, 2001, 2007, 2015, and 2018).
Among the best ambassadors of French cinema, actresses Catherine Deneuve, Emmanuelle Béart, Isabelle Huppert, Audrey Tautou, Camille Cottin, and Juliette Binoche have all experienced this extraordinary event held within the walls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 77 years in New York. Other significant figures in cinema have represented France against Hollywood celebrities, including Adèle Exarchopoulos, Laetitia Casta, Omar Sy, Stacy Martin, Lou Doillon, and Vanessa Paradis. The latter paved the way for her daughter Lily-Rose Depp, who has already participated in the event four times in 2016 and beyond.
