For many years, Hélène Ségara was in a relationship with musician Mathieu Lecat. Together, they had two children: Mattéo (born in 2003) and Maya (born in 2004). The singer, originally from the Southeast of France, is also the mother of a son from a previous relationship, born in 1990 when she was only 18. In 2023, Hélène Ségara and Mathieu Lecat separated, and the children decided to live with their father. According to France Dimanche, Mattéo, now 23, is “pursuing a brilliant medical studies at the prestigious University of Los Angeles, UCLA.” Maya, 21 years old, is currently “studying psychology at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.”

“Distance is not always easy to live with,” says Hélène Ségara. The singer, whose career took off in 1998 when she played Esmeralda in the musical Notre-Dame de Paris, finds the separation difficult but prefers to focus on the fact that her children are pursuing higher education. She mentioned, “Distance is not always easy to live with. But no parent is eternal, so I feel a certain satisfaction, a certain relief in seeing them become independent. The most important thing for a mother is to leave behind strong, confident children,” she said in an interview with Gala in 2025. Fortunately, Hélène Ségara can rely on the presence of her eldest son, Raphaël, who is 35 years old and “owns a restaurant in the heart of Paris.”

Even though she is far from her children, Hélène Ségara can always count on them. They are also there to support her since she developed serious health issues about ten years ago. The singer is fighting against macular degeneration that is progressively affecting her vision. She has undergone several surgical interventions and treatments to try to slow down the progression of the disease. She shared, “I still don’t know what I’m fighting against, but I’m trying everything. (…) Once you start losing your sight, your eye desperately seeks light. So there were moments where I found myself with strabismus that I couldn’t control,” she revealed on the show Sept à Huit in 2024, speaking to Audrey Crespo-Mara. In total, she disclosed that she had undergone “about twenty interventions.”
