During the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, revisited the 7th Conference of Ambassadors, Consuls General and Consuls of Senegal, which he presided over on April 18 around the theme: “Senegalese diplomacy and the renewal of international cooperation: principles and modes of action.”
The head of state praised the professionalism of Senegalese diplomats as well as the quality of the organization of this meeting, particularly commending the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad as well as all diplomatic and consular staff.
On this occasion, Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed his commitment to reposition Senegalese diplomacy around an approach more oriented towards economic and strategic issues. He emphasized the need to strengthen good neighborliness, African integration, multilateralism, and the international influence of Senegal.
The President of the Republic especially called for the systematic anchoring of a true economic diplomacy in service of the “Senegal 2050 Vision”. According to him, this new direction of Senegalese foreign policy should be based on three major axes: promoting Senegal’s attractiveness, mobilizing advantageous bilateral and multilateral funding, and developing strategic partnerships.
In this dynamic, the head of state instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, as well as the Minister of Finance and Budget to propose, by the end of June 2026, a new national strategy for international cooperation and partnerships.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye also stressed the need to strengthen the human, budgetary, and financial resources of diplomatic missions in order to improve the economic promotion of Senegal abroad.
The President also addressed the situation of Senegalese diaspora, calling for better administrative and social support, especially in issuing national identity cards and passports. He also requested the acceleration of a special program to support initiatives, projects, and investments of Senegalese abroad.
The head of state instructed the government to work on a five-year program to modernize the diplomatic and consular network, with objectives including improving the working conditions of Senegalese representations and strengthening the culture of results in conducting Senegal’s foreign policy.
