Lisa Kudrow Takes a Hit at the End of “Friends”

Some series continue to be popular long after they’ve ended. But when Lisa Kudrow, star of “Friends,” reveals what was happening behind the scenes, she may well tarnish our best TV memories.

Twenty-two years after its last episode, “Friends” is still considered a nostalgia goldmine for millions of fans. They still applaud in rhythm during the opening credits, laugh at Chandler’s jokes, and hold their breath during Ross and Rachel’s relationship woes. The iconic series lasted for ten years, but a shadow now hangs over these idyllic memories.

In an interview with The Times of London, Lisa Kudrow describes “really sordid things” happening backstage. The writers, mostly men, displayed what would now be called “toxic masculinity.” Kudrow recounted instances where they were insulted when lines were forgotten or not delivered as expected.

Kudrow also mentioned that the writers would discuss sexual fantasies involving Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, which she found “brutal.” Despite these revelations, Kudrow claims she remained oblivious to these behaviors at the time, as she focused more on her work.

This isn’t the first time negative revelations about “Friends” have emerged. In 1999, assistant Amaani Lyle filed a complaint alleging that the writers made sexist and racist comments. The Supreme Court ruled against Lyle, stating that such behavior was part of the work environment.

Not everything in the series has aged well. Episodes featuring Chandler’s transgender father now leave viewers feeling uncomfortable. Despite this, it’s hard for fans to accept that their favorite show wasn’t as perfect as they believed. This realization is common in the world of television.

These revelations tarnish many TV memories. Viewers are free to choose whether to ignore them. For Lisa Kudrow, it seems clear: most of it belongs in the past. She continues to profit from “Friends” through reruns, streaming deals, and licensing, still earning around $17 million annually from the show.
