Six years ago, after seven terms, Michel Ricaud chose not to run for re-election in 2020. During a period of health crisis, only one list was presented to voters. Without opposition, the fifteen candidates were elected and Serge Cieutat was named mayor of the municipality.
Today, it is his turn to decide to pass the baton. Starting in 2024, Marie-Laure Pargala, particularly motivated and determined, has committed to forming a new team. For many months, the members of the list have been traveling through the village to exchange ideas with residents and build an innovative project rooted in local expectations.
A questionnaire, distributed to all mailboxes, received a very positive reception, with a participation rate beyond expectations. Based on the identified priority themes, the team drafted a statement of belief, distributed to all residents, and then organized a public meeting in the village hall. The success of this meeting exceeded expectations: extra chairs had to be added to accommodate the audience.
At the start of the evening, Fabien Duco presented the agenda of discussions, jokingly stating that the goal was to “quickly reach item number 7,” which focused on public questions. Marie-Laure Pargala, head of the list, then detailed the projects planned for the term, the result of collective reflection. Among the key focus areas is the desire to develop a partnership with ADAPEI, an institution present in the area that embodies dignity and integration.
Jean-Luc Cossou, on the other hand, was particularly comfortable discussing financial prospects, stating his goal to “ensure a sound, rigorous, responsible, and transparent management” and preferring “a reasoned ambition over the comfort of inaction.”
Interactions with the audience led to some observations from members of the second list present, without escalating into controversy.
In conclusion, Marie-Laure Pargala thanked her team for their unwavering support. She also paid tribute to all those who had committed to the village before her, as well as to “her mother, who married a man on the other side of the world in Ossun, and passed on her kindness and her need to help others, values that she inherited.” She also reiterated: “My commitment to Azereix is not new. It will not stop tomorrow. This election is unprecedented with the candidacy of two women, and I am delighted: it is also a sign of a vibrant democracy.”
