It is a new tragedy related to ICE operations in the United States. On Monday, February 17th, in Savannah, Georgia, a special education teacher was killed in an accident caused by a driver trying to escape immigration federal agents. The suspect, Oscar Vasquez Lopez, aged 38, subject to a deportation order since 2024, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving, as reported by American media outlets including NBC News and CNN.

According to ICE agents, the man was stopped during a check but fled when agents approached. He made a U-turn, ran a red light, and crashed into Linda Davis’ vehicle, who was heading to Hesse K-8 School. ICE spokeswoman Lindsay Williams told NBC News that the agents followed him until he caused the accident.

Linda Davis, a special education teacher in the local school district since 2022, died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital, according to CNN. Her principal, Alonna McMullen, stated that she “dedicated her career to making sure every child feels supported, valued, and capable of success,” emphasizing her commitment to the students.

The local police stated they were not informed in advance of the federal immigration police operation, while the suspect remains in Chatham County Jail. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, as reported by authorities cited by NBC News and CNN.
