President Donald Trump, referring to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, suggested that the intruder at the gala he was attending in Washington could have been targeting him because he was unhappy with his policies. “I respectfully ask you, why do you think this keeps happening to you?” a journalist asked. Donald Trump had a ready answer regarding his place in the pantheon of American presidents. “Well, you know, I have studied assassinations,” the septuagenarian declared. “And I have to tell you that the most impactful people, those who make the most impact – look at Abraham Lincoln (…) those who have the most impact, are the ones we target,” he added. “I hate to say that I am honored to say it, but I have accomplished a lot. We have changed this country, and there are a lot of people who are not happy about that. So I think that’s the answer,” emphasized Donald Trump. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was assassinated in 1865 in his theater box in Washington by an ardent supporter of the “Souterners” who had just been defeated by the federal government forces.
