Donald Trump cancels trip of envoys to Pakistan for talks with Iran

  • Donald Trump, on Saturday, canceled the trip of Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who were set to go to Pakistan for new discussions with Iran.
  • According to the U.S. president, this decision does not indicate a return to hostilities in the region.

Donald Trump makes a U-turn. The American president announces on Saturday, April 25, that he has canceled the expected trip of his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan. The two men were supposed to go to Islamabad for new talks with Iran. “I just canceled the trip of my representatives to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians,” he writes on his Truth Social platform. “Too much time wasted in trips, too much work! (…) Nobody knows who is in charge (in Tehran), including themselves,” he explains, emphasizing that he has “all the cards in hand.” “If they want to talk, they just need to call us,” adds the billionaire, “but you will no longer take eighteen-hour flights to sit down and talk about nothing.”

However, according to the White House tenant, this announcement initially reported by Axios and Fox News does not signal a return to combat in the Middle East. “No. It doesn’t mean that (the attacks on Iran will resume, editor’s note). We haven’t thought about it yet,” he assures.

This dramatic turn of events comes a few hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded a visit to Pakistan. He even took a swipe at Washington, suggesting that it “remains to be seen if the United States is truly serious about diplomacy.”

It should be remembered that the United States has indefinitely extended the truce with Iran this week, which came into effect on April 8 after the Israeli-American strikes launched on February 28.
