The ice of the Saint Pierre ice rink welcomes the 26th edition of the international curling tournament on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. The competition brings together several local clubs and teams from Canada. The tournament promises high-level showdowns.

At the rink, Stéphane and Bill are putting the finishing touches on the ice surface one last time. They are also players and part of the teams participating in the tournament. Their team is unique as it is mixed, consisting of both local and Quebecois members.

“The pleasure of curling is to be sociable, friendly,” says Stéphane Surprenant, player and coach.

“We were just two, that’s why we joined a team from Saint-Pierre, to make a complete team. The pleasure of curling is to be sociable, friendly,” adds Stéphane Surprenant, player and coach.

And the victory in all of this?

“It’s secondary. If we win, even better,” says the Canadian.

“For all the players, it’s an opportunity to compete against other competitors. Arriving this Friday, this team of French residents in Montreal is making their first visit to Saint-Pierre.”

“We’re looking forward to discovering the ice. It’s the first time we’re going to throw stones on it. So, we’re going to try to play our best and play our curling. We’ll see what happens. We know it’s going to be a good adventure anyway,” says Cédric Durand, a curler.

“The French team is ready to go: ‘Wherever the stones take us,”‘ continues the athlete.

This year, the tournament organizers are completely satisfied with the involvement of local and external teams. The curling tournament is underway at the Saint-Pierre ice rink. The winner will be determined on Saturday, April 24.
