Winning convincingly (4-2) on the field of Saint-Alban Aucamville this Thursday, April 23, the Auscitains are leading the way in pool D of Regional 2. The Gers are now just three steps away from the title and promotion.
Another step taken. By imposing themselves (4-2) in Saint-Alban Aucamville in an advanced match, the Auscitains are getting closer to their goal. More than ever, with only three matchdays left, the Gersois are in control of their destiny in this Regional 2 pool.
On the field of a team in the lower part of the table, Thursday evening, the teammates of captain Gayraud left no room for doubt. Despite being without key players due to injuries and suspensions, the Gers group held their ground. “Today, collectively, we are working well. There are rotations due to multiple injuries, but we have built a group to be able to respond to this type of event. We hope it will pay off,” says Auch coach Sébastien Ferrero.
A wish fulfilled in Haute-Garonne. It is becoming a habit: the Auscitains started this 23rd matchday at full throttle. “We had a good start, which allowed us to get into the game. We managed to score on the first corner. Behind, we were efficient,” explains the Auscitain coach. With goals from Fitte (4th), Y. Ouhammou (13th), Gayraud (17th), and Ousseni (32nd), the Gersois led comfortably at halftime (0-4).
“We had a good first half, where we were serious and focused,” congratulates Sébastien Ferrero, while pointing out a downside. “We can regret the second half where, unconsciously, we entered a form of management.” Result: two goals conceded in the final twenty minutes (2-4), which however did not jeopardize the three points for the victory.
“We don’t pay too much attention to others”
This twentieth victory of the season puts the pursuers under high pressure, even though in the Auscitain locker room they claim not to be looking back. “We don’t pay too much attention to others, we mainly focus on ourselves and we will continue to do so until the end of the season, game after game,” assures Sébastien Ferrero.
By reaching the symbolic 60-point mark, the “Lions” from Auch currently have a six-point lead over Seysses-Frouzins (2nd) and seven points ahead of US Pibrac (3rd). With eleven points behind despite having one game less, the Columérins, fourth and former leaders, now seem out of the race for the top spot.
With three matchdays to go, still with two home games, the path to the title and promotion to Regional 1 seems clear. The Auscitains – busy this weekend organizing the International Carrière Challenge – will follow from afar, comfortably seated in their leader’s seat, the results of their rivals.
