Ndiaz and Plouzifoen Collaborate on New Single

‘Ndiaz and Plouzifoen met at Novomax, the contemporary music venue in Quimper (Finistère). They share two common points: they are both produced by the same label Paker Prod, from Concarneau, and they come from the Diwan system. Their new single Deus Ganin (Come see) was released on all platforms this Friday, April 24.

“We discovered Plouzifoen on social media and then saw them in concert. They are very different from what we do, but we share the same mindset of promoting Breton culture, they through language and us through music. The collaboration for a song and a video happened naturally,” said Youn Kamm, the trumpeter.

‘Ndiaz: A Band that Defies Labels

The four musicians of ‘Ndiaz met at Kreiz Breizh Akademi before forming their group in 2013. They defy categorization, blending pop-electro, jazz, Brazilian rhythms, and melodies from India and the Middle East.

“It’s very French to want to label things,” explains Youn Kamm. “It’s just for organizing records on shelves, but there are no more record stores! We make music to dance to. We started with more acoustic music – jazz. But as time went on, we removed all the improvisation. We grew up listening to Metallica and our grandparents singing traditional songs. We come from traditional music, but not just Celtic. We are used to working with other artists from Asturias, Brazil, and Chile. We always wanted this openness and to confront other styles.”

Diverse Musical Influences

The band members are influenced by a variety of musical cultures, which is evident in their three albums. Youn, the trumpeter, has even played with Ibrahim Maalouf, bringing Middle Eastern influences to some of their tracks.

Each member adds their own flavor to the music, creating a unique blend of styles resulting in a rich musical experience.

“This eclecticism shows that routine is not their thing, and with each album, for over 10 years, they explore new territories,” said Youn Kamm.

‘Ndiaz will perform live this Sunday, April 26, where they will debut two songs from their upcoming album.
