Fireworks and excessive volume. “It felt like being at an outdoor nightclub,” Mayor Fabrice Prudhon recounts. On Saturday night, the mayor of Châtenoy-en-Bresse received a call on the municipal hotline from residents near the community center. They were complaining about disturbances.

Accompanied by his deputy in charge of public tranquility and the gendarmerie whom he had just contacted, he went to the location. “We met with the organizers who explained the situation to us,” he said. The volume was lowered, the prohibited fireworks stopped. They also committed to clean up the area around the community center where there was litter.

An internal regulation that will be revised

The next day, the mayor visited the community center to confirm that the cleanup had been done. It was indeed the case. “At 1:30 am, the music stopped as stated in the contract signed by the renter,” he specified. However, what happened on Saturday night will serve as a precedent of sorts. “We will review the internal rental regulations of the facility. We will likely mandate the use of a noise limiter,” he revealed. This device was acquired during the previous term. The municipality is also in the process of preparing a broader public tranquility plan. It is one of the projects that was championed during the electoral campaign.

Present on Saturday night, the gendarmerie fined the renter of the facility for nighttime disturbance and use of fireworks (fines between 68 and 1,500 euros).
