Friday, April 24, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the lights of the Maurice Lecoq hall will remain on until the early morning. The St. Georges Leopards badminton club is launching its first competitive nighttime tournament , a first in the Flers region and possibly in all of Orne.
80 badminton players will play until dawn in Saint-Georges-des-Groseillers (Orne) for the Night of the Leopards.
Immediate Success
The limit of 80 players, set by time constraints, was reached within a few weeks. About ten people are now on the waiting list.
“We are delighted to welcome 80 players for this first edition, the enthusiasm has exceeded our expectations, both among our members and in the neighboring clubs,” testifies Guillaume Fournier, a club player.
Among them, 22 players wear the colors of the Leopards . Sixteen clubs will be represented, coming from Orne, Calvados, and Manche.
Event Schedule
The competition is divided into men’s doubles (3 series) and women’s doubles (2 series), from departmental to regional level. The pairs will play in groups of four, with two qualifiers per group, before the semi-finals and the final. A format designed so that each pair can play as much as possible.
Winners and finalists will receive gift baskets. Refreshments will be available on site. For those who want to experience the atmosphere without a racket, entry is free, so don’t hesitate to come and cheer on the players.
A Project Rooted in the Club
Behind the event, a concrete goal: to finance the equipment of young players and cope with the rising cost of shuttles. A great way for the Leopards to prove that a well-supported idea can bring people together beyond the region. “A big thank you to the club’s volunteers, without whom this night would not be possible.”
