Five people were shot Wednesday night in a field in eastern Wake County. A man was killed, and four people were injured, including a boy.
Deputies with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said they responded around 10:40 p.m. to multiple people shot at the intersection of Mack-Todd Road and Barbee Road near Zebulon. They found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
First responders located a third man who was also shot in the incident. They attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.
A short time later, a man and a boy walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds believed to be connected to the shooting. They are both expected to be okay.
A witness spoke to WRAL News and said a party was happening in the large field. She said the party was ending and, as people were leaving, they heard gunfire and started running.
The intersection remained closed into Thursday morning as investigators pieced together the circumstances surrounding the shooting. So far, no one is in custody.
Drone 5 flew over the field once the sun was up, showing crime scene tape and more than a dozen evidence markers strewn about the area.
WRAL News is working to learn the conditions and identities of the victims, but Broadcastify radio traffic provides more details about the shooting scene:
“We have one male as of right now, GSW to the chest, no pulse, not breathing.”
“We have (another) GSW through the leg, it’ll be near the intersection of Mack Todd and Barbee Street. We’re working on getting there. I believe it’s gonna be below the knee.”
Zebulon Mayor Jessica Daniels Harrison released a statement expressing condolences to the victims and their families. She emphasized the impact on the community and encouraged support for those affected.
Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe also offered condolences and assured that investigators would work to hold those responsible for the violence accountable.
