Engaged Cinema: Repères Festival denounces environmental catastrophes

Representations are therefore starting this Thursday at 8:00 pm with the film “Le sang et la boue” by Jean-Gabriel Leynaud, shot in Numbi, in eastern Congo. A land where coltan, a mineral essential for the manufacture of high-tech products, is extracted. Espoir Rwakira, a researcher at the Group for Conflict Studies and Human Security, will be present for the conference following the screening.

On Friday, still at 8:00 pm, “La rivière” directed by Dominique Marchais, will talk about the disruption caused by human activity, the water cycle between the Pyrenees and the Atlantic, especially what is called the Gaves. To discuss this after the screening, the festival has invited Ghislaine Avinent, the president of the departmental fishing federation.

Regarding deforestation

For its last day, Representations plans two sessions, at 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. The first will present the documentary “La Forêt est à nous” by Anne Faisandier. The filmmaker placed her cameras in the Morvan, close to the defenders of the black woods. The documentary producer, Anne Faisandier, will be there to discuss the subject.

Finally, for its last showing, Representations has chosen South America with “De la guerre froide à la guerre verte” by Anna Recal de Miranda. She went to film the border between Paraguay and Brazil, which has become a green desert after experiencing war and intensive soybean cultivation. Two speakers will be present after the screening: Bernard Bessette from CCFD and Bernard Périn from Terre de liens.
