As the deadline approaches for the end of the truce between Iran and the United States, set for April 22, uncertainties persist about a resumption of talks. No Iranian delegation has reportedly left Tehran, while Washington mentions imminent talks in Pakistan. Donald Trump has stated that he will not lift the blockade imposed on Iranian ports without a deal.
On the eve of the ceasefire expiration between Iran and the United States, negotiations remain uncertain, reported by France Info. Iranian state television stated on Tuesday, April 21, that “so far, no Iranian delegation has departed for Islamabad, Pakistan, whether primary or secondary,” denying any immediate participation in the discussions. This situation adds to the uncertainty as the truce, which came into effect on April 8, is due to end “Wednesday night, US time,” according to Donald Trump.
Discussions Suspended at Truce End
Despite this, the US President mentions a possible resumption of talks this week in Pakistan. However, no specific schedule has been confirmed, and the absence of the Iranian delegation complicates any short-term negotiations. At the same time, Donald Trump has tied any progress to a concrete agreement, linking the lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports to a deal with Tehran. “The blockade, which we will not lift until there is a ‘deal,’ is completely destroying Iran,” he stated on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Tensions are high as Tehran maintains a firm stance. Iran claims to be ready for a return to hostilities if no compromise is reached. “We do not negotiate under threat, and over the past two weeks, we have been preparing to play new cards on the battlefield,” warned the President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
