Ruud Gullit, the Ballon d’or winner in 1987, has expressed his admiration for the Paris Saint-Germain team, especially for Portuguese midfielders João Neves and Vitinha.
“They mesmerize all of Europe. The players of Paris Saint-Germain, current champions of Europe and aiming for a second consecutive title in the Champions League, received praise from former Ballon d’or winner, the Dutchman Ruud Gullit.”
Present at Parc des Princes on March 11, the former Dutch international player (66 caps, 17 goals) was impressed by the performance of Parisians, who crushed Chelsea 5-2 in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The 63-year-old coach particularly praised the midfielders, stating that they played fantastically, even going as far as to consider them the best in history at their position, especially Vitinha, whose journey surprised Gullit.
“It’s incredible to remember that Vitinha played for the Wolves and wasn’t even considered one of the best players on the team. Today, he is used in a different way and look how good he is,” explained Gullit, who won the Champions League twice with AC Milan (1989 and 1990).
The winner of Euro 1988 with the Netherlands also congratulated the entire Parisian team and the orchestrator, Luis Enrique. “It’s a team full of talent and all the players work hard. They work hard to recover every ball. It’s one of the secrets of this PSG. My compliments to the coach,” concluded the former Chelsea coach, a week before the Champions League semi-finals where Paris will face Bayern Munich.
