On Friday, April 17th, Nathalie Baye passed away at the age of 77, a sad news announced by her family the next day. The actress, whose career has marked generations of viewers, had been battling Lewy body disease for several years. This neurodegenerative condition had gradually weakened her, who until then had radiated with vitality. Since her passing was announced, tributes have poured in to honor the memory of this luminous personality. Invited on the set of Cnews on Saturday, April 18th, Michel Drucker shared more information about Nathalie Baye’s illness.
“Those were the first signs”: Michel Drucker recounts a disturbing memory of Nathalie Baye Among the voices that have spoken to honor Nathalie Baye’s memory is Michel Drucker. The 83-year-old host, who had met the actress on the set of La Nuit américaine by François Truffaut, unfortunately witnessed her slow decline. He revealed having perceived signs of the disease some time ago: “I knew she was suffering and had neurological problems… Four or five years ago, she was supposed to perform in a play at the Théâtre des Nouveautés, and those were the first signs of the disease. She had trouble with her lines,” he explained. For the host, her death was not a big surprise, as he later admitted on Europe 1: “I saw Nathalie not long ago at a dinner and she was already very tired.”
“The shadow of the disease fell on her two, three years ago” Director Nicole Garcia, who had directed the actress in “Every Other Weekend,” also emotionally described the painful transformation of her friend Nathalie Baye, on France Info. She remembers a woman who used to seek a lot of fun: “She wanted to have fun a lot. This neurodegenerative disease cast a shadow over her, and at that point, it was no longer about laughter and jokes.” In the pages of Paris Match, the filmmaker recalls a woman capable of doing cartwheels on a beach in the île de Ré, and ultimately silenced by the disease. “That’s why the shadow that fell on her two, three years ago due to her illness was heartbreaking because she stopped laughing. While everything she loved was about laughter. Her illness, for all the people who loved her, was something very sad because her laughter was silenced.”
