On Friday evening, Nathalie Baye passed away at the age of 77 after suffering from Lewy body disease. She leaves behind her daughter, Laura Smet.
“I don’t like to invade my daughter’s life and that of her husband. I find it unbearable when a mother is always there and interfering in everything. Once our child enters adulthood and has their own life, it must be respected,” Nathalie Baye said about her daughter, Laura Smet, in an interview with Madame Figaro in 2021. Despite not intruding on the life of the child she had in 1983 with Johnny Hallyday, she still maintained a close and unwavering bond with her. This new obstacle was confirmed on the evening of Friday, April 17th, as announced by her family to AFP.
She was suffering from Lewy body disease, a neurodegenerative condition that can be mistaken for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Laura Smet witnessed her mother’s health deteriorate over the past few months but cherishes many wonderful memories with her. The mother-daughter duo has often been seen together on red carpets and at various events.
Nathalie Baye took her role as a mother very seriously, considering it a unique opportunity. “Having a child is discovering a love that was previously unknown, there is something unique about it. And if we want to do things right, not everything is easy in raising a child, but the challenge is interesting,” the actress said.
The late actress remained by her daughter’s side even during the toughest times. From adolescence to deep depression that Laura Smet experienced in 2007, Nathalie Baye supported her daughter through it all. “There were challenges, but Laura overcame them,” said Baye in an interview.
