The monumental arch planned by Donald Trump has apparently been given a name, notes The Washington Post. On Friday, April 10, the American president presented the plans for the “grand arch” to be built in Washington, “near the Arlington National Cemetery.” Its name? The “Arc de Triomphe of the United States.”
On Wednesday, April 15, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt provided some details during a press conference. The monument is set to rise “250 feet [about 76 meters],” in honor of the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the United States. At its summit will be “a millennial blend by AI, between the Statue of Liberty holding a torch and Nike, the Greek goddess of victory,” quips The Washington Post. “Four lion statues” will flank the monument, which will bear inscriptions in gold letters, “One nation under God” – “a nation under the authority of God” – and “Liberty and justice for all” – “liberty and justice for all.”
Donald Trump had visited the Arc de Triomphe in Paris during his first term, on the occasion of the Armistice commemorations of November 11, 1918, as reported by The New York Times. “The Parisian monument left a mark on his memory, and now, eight years later, the American president is determined.”
