Some lives seem to be written in effort and determination. Margaret Missimilly’s life is a perfect example of this. She was born in 1972 in Privas, Ardèche, in a multicultural neighborhood where she grew up with deeply rooted values of solidarity. These principles were passed down by her father, a former Harki, and her mother, an occupational therapist. From a young age, the young woman developed a taste for commitment.
At 21 years old, she harbored a dream: to become a firefighter, just like her brothers and father. However, her father opposed this, worried about her entering a very male-dominated environment. But Margaret did not give up. On the contrary, she chose to prove her determination by joining the army. “I found myself at the 8th transmission regiment in Mont-Valérien, where there were only ten girls among several hundred men“.
Three months later, paternal pride replaced the worries. “When he saw me coming down in uniform, he was so proud”.
Later assigned to the Fort de Vincennes, Margaret participated in repatriating wounded soldiers from Rwanda and former Yugoslavia. A powerful experience that confirmed her desire to help and heal.
