Daniel Mermet and Olivier Azam, the directors of the documentary “Howard Zinn, une histoire populaire américaine 2”, were present on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the family cinema, to present the complementary sequel, 10 years after the first installment.
The documentary traces the life of Howard Zinn, explaining how through a decryption of the popular history of the United States, he revealed to Americans a part of their past, long ignored by themselves. It sheds light on the American political scientist’s desire to give a place in American history to unheard minorities, Native Americans, Blacks, slaves, deserters, textile workers, unionists, and more.
“Given the current geopolitical situation and the role of the United States in it, our film highlights the work of Howard Zinn, who suddenly appears as a counter-fire to the Trump era. Criticizing the choices of the President of the United States is one thing, but showing and explaining, through history, the danger they represent is equally important. However, we must not succumb to pessimism, we must keep hope for better times,” reassured Daniel Mermet. The screening was followed by a lively exchange with the audience.
