Donald Trump apparently respects no one, not even Pope Leon XIV. Last Sunday, the American president went after the pontiff, accusing him of being “weak in the face of crime and catastrophic in foreign policy.” He also believes the American is “playing with a country that wants to acquire nuclear weapons.”

“Stop! It’s time to make peace! Sit at the table of dialogue!” The Republican billionaire clearly did not appreciate the speech given by the pope during a prayer vigil for peace at the Basilica of Saint Peter in Rome on Saturday.

The successor of Saint Peter indeed called for an end to war in the world. “Enough of the idolatry of self and money! Enough of shows of force! Enough of war! The true strength is manifested in serving life. Dear brothers and sisters, there are certainly imperative responsibilities that fall to the leaders of nations. To them we cry out: Stop! It’s time to make peace! Sit at the table of dialogue and mediation, not at the table where rearmament is planned and where deadly actions are decided!” the pontiff declared.

The attacks by the American president against the pope are firmly condemned by Iran. “The desecration of Jesus (peace be upon him), the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is unacceptable to us,” wrote Masoud Pezeshkian, president of the Islamic Republic, in a message published on X.

“In the name of the great Iranian nation, I condemn the insult to your person and declare that the desecration of Jesus (peace be upon him), the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is unacceptable to any free man,” added the Iranian leader.

It should be noted that Trump accompanied his diatribe against the pope with an image generated by AI, showing him in a white and red robe, laying his hand on the forehead of a patient in a hospital bed.

The pontiff has already made it clear that he is not afraid of the Trump administration and does not intend to engage in a debate with the White House tenant.
