The annual San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering kicked off at Petco Park with a day full of “STEAM” events, which include science, technology, engineering, arts, and math activities.

Annie Warner, a development associate with Generation STEAM, emphasized the importance of starting young to spark interest in education among children.

The event not only introduces children to the world of science but also provides opportunities for middle and high school students to connect with over 20 higher education partners, such as San Diego State University.

College students shared their experiences in research and career pursuits, such as Bianca Rollbusch, a Molecular and Cellular Biology major at SDSU.

Scientist volunteers, like Dr. Lisa Eyler from UC San Diego, led activities and discussions at the “Stand Up For Science” booth to advocate for science funding, highlighting the impact on research and the community.

Eyler urged support for SB 895, the California Science and Health Research Bond Act, to ensure state funding for research that contributes to workforce and industry growth.

The festival will continue every Saturday in March, offering free admission to the public.
