It’s an ambitious, almost risky bet that Netflix has just launched with its new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie. The platform has unveiled the very first trailer for this reimagined version, expected to arrive on July 9, 2026. The goal is clear: to bring back to life the universe of Laura Ingalls Wilder while paying tribute to the cult series that marked generations between 1974 and 1983, and trying to attract a new audience. In this reinterpretation, Netflix relies on a more current and faster-paced vision, with a completely renewed cast to breathe new life into this family epic. The trailer dives directly into the daily life of the Ingalls family, at the moment of their great departure: they leave Wisconsin to try their luck in the vast plains of the American West. A radical choice of life, driven by the hope of a better future, but quickly facing a reality much harsher than expected.
The Little House on the Prairie returns with a reimagined cast
A film project had already been discussed in 2014, then another reboot by Paramount in 2020, without ever materializing. It was finally Netflix who took up the torch and decided to relaunch Little House on the Prairie. And while some hoped to see iconic figures from the original series like Alison Arngrim, aka Nellie Oleson, this will not be the case. The actress did tell BFMTV, “The producers have chosen good actors, so I hope we will find the spirit, we will find Laura Ingalls and we will find Nellie Oleson too!” In terms of casting, Netflix made quite different choices for this new version. Charles Ingalls will be played by Luke Bracey (Point Break), taking on the role of the patriarch between scenes of rural life. Caroline Ingalls will be played by Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale), while Laura Ingalls will be portrayed by Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry), who will also narrate the story. Finally, Mary Ingalls will be played by Skywalker Hughes (Joe Pickett), completing this new family at the heart of the great American plains.
Netflix unveils the first teaser for its reboot
While the cast is different, fans should not be too disappointed since the story follows the synopsis of Little House on the Prairie. The Ingalls settle in rural Minnesota to start a new life, faithful to the spirit of the original saga, between discovery, survival, and family life. In Netflix’s recently unveiled first trailer, it is Laura Ingalls who narrates and recounts her family’s arrival in a wagon to their new home. “Once upon a time, Pa, Ma, Mary, and Laura left the great forests of Wisconsin to settle on the prairie, where a new life awaited them,” she can be heard saying before continuing, “Every day and every night was an adventure. And even though they were alone and so small under the sky and the stars, they were happy. Because they were a family, and they were together.” That sets the tone right away!
