Delight
A new smoothie spot has soft-opened on the east side of Lake Merritt, according to a reader tip. It is owned by friends of Admas Ethiopian and Eritrean foods, which is next door. Specials include a pineapple mint and coconut refresher that’s made with fresh pineapple and mint, coconut water, and honey. They also offer acai bowls and other classic smoothies like mango, avocado, and strawberry. Delight, 1910 Park Blvd., Oakland.
Tay Ho
Not a new opening, but rather news that Tay Ho, a beloved Vietnamese spot in Oakland’s Chinatown, has managed to remain open despite a shocking attempted burglary last week in which a car was rammed repeatedly into the facade of the restaurant. The alarm system scared off the would-be thieves, but not before causing significant damage. TayHo made some temporary fixes and launched a GoFundMe to help with repairs and a new security gate. The crowd-funder has mobilized fans of the minority-owned, mother-daughter business and raised upwards of $30K at the time of writing. Tay Ho, 344, 12th St., Oakland.
