Former star striker of the Argentine national football team, Gabriel Batistuta, has successfully transitioned away from the spotlight and onto the fields, becoming a prominent figure in the agricultural sector in his hometown of Reconquista, in the province of Santa Fe.
After retiring from his sporting career in 2005, Batistuta returned to Reconquista, where he has developed numerous agricultural projects, focusing on managing farms and related businesses.
Now 57 years old, Batistuta manages around 20,000 hectares of agricultural land in the region, primarily dedicated to the production of soybeans, corn, and sunflower. He has also ventured into cattle farming, emphasizing traditional methods combined with modern technologies.
Apart from overseeing operations, Batistuta is actively involved in decision-making processes. His choice to pursue agriculture was not merely for economic reasons but also for the peaceful lifestyle in Reconquista and the opportunity to work closely with the land.
His proactive management style is evident in his public participation in agricultural events, advocating for recognition of rural producers’ efforts. These qualities have established him as a leading figure in the agricultural industry.
Trained in Argentina, Batistuta played for the Fiorentina for nine seasons, becoming the second-highest scorer in the club’s history with 207 goals. Despite receiving offers from top European clubs, he remained loyal to Fiorentina, eventually joining AS Roma and winning the league title in his first season.
Under the Argentine national team, “Batigol” won two Copa America titles in 1991 and 1993, as well as the inaugural FIFA Confederations Cup in 1992. With 56 international goals in his career, he was once Argentina’s all-time leading scorer, later surpassed by Lionel Messi.
