In the wake of Donald Trump’s weekend at Mar-a-Lago, the US president has implemented a new concept of “war by mouth” against Iran. Following a weekend of intensive bombings coordinated with Israeli forces, the American military has managed to decimate the top of the religious and military power in Tehran. While the risk of regional escalation remains high, after Iranian reprisals against several countries, three American soldiers have been killed.
According to a speech on Sunday, March 1, Trump said, “Unfortunately, there will probably be more before it ends. That’s just the way it is.” He also gave several briefings to the press. The war scenario appears to be unplanned, lacking step-by-step objectives, identified relays on the ground, and a polite argument.
On the very day of the regime’s decapitation, Saturday, Trump joked in an interview with Axios, saying, “I can last a long time and take back the whole thing, or put an end to it in two-three days and tell the Iranians, ‘See you in a few years if you start rebuilding the [nuclear] program.'” Dimanche matin, dans The Atlantic, le magnat se prétendait disponible pour la diplomatie, après avoir plaidé la veille pour un renversement du régime. “They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will talk to them,” he said. In the afternoon, he told the Daily Mail about the war: “It has always been a four-week process.” And finally, Sunday night, he assured the New York Times that he had “three very good choices” for leading the country.
