Middle form to Toulouse FC where he evolved twice (1994-1999 then 2005-2008) with six months in between at Stade Rennais (January-December 2002), “Lolo” Batlles, now 50 years old, finds himself “on forced rest” waiting for a challenge that suits him. But he is not inactive either: between two appearances on Canal +, the elegant right foot watches many matches. Including those of Tef. It was the ideal witness before the Rennes-Toulouse match on Saturday, February 21 (5pm), at Roazhon Park.
Laurent, what are you doing now?
As you know, I am currently on forced rest, so to speak. After that, I am a consultant at Canal + for shows and for the Europa League multiplex commentary; it allows me to stay well connected to the environment. I have a good perception of French football.

Otherwise, are you on hold or are you waiting for an opportunity?
I am looking for a project like any coach who has been sacked. However, I realize that it is not so easy because there are not many positions available. Then the clubs nowadays hesitate to replace the current coaches due to financial reasons.
What project would make you dive back in?
I think Ligue 1 might be a bit complicated because I have legitimacy in Ligue 2; especially being a champion with Troyes. I continued in Ligue 2 with Saint-Etienne then Clermont. Now, I am not closed to Ligue 1, obviously.
Where do you currently reside?
I am still in Saint-Etienne. I have been there since I ended my career. I had been part of the club for years as a scout, assistant, and youth coach.
In the text, Batlles talks about his coaching experiences, inspirations, and memories of his time in Rennes and Toulouse. He also reflects on the strengths of the Toulouse FC team under coach Franck Haise.
